What is Rooted Acorn's story?

We are two therapists who have worked in community mental health for several years. In our commitment to continue serving the community, we wanted to create a service uniquely ours. Rooted Acorn Counseling began as a dream while sitting on the back porch on a long summer's day. We both farm and we both value a good metaphor in life.
Oak trees grow from acorns which then produce more acorns. The acorns fall to the ground. Some get eaten by the squirrels, a much needed life-sustaining nutrient to many critters. Some find their way beneath the soil where the seed sprouts and pushes roots deep into the ground. Science is finding that trees are connected. They burrow their roots and spread them out. They also form a network beneath the soil with some help from fungi. This network supports the tree above ground and supports the community. We like the idea of growing from a seed to become part of a network of support for ourselves and the community. Growth, however, takes some dark days beneath that soil, and that's an important part of the process. We get that, and we are here as support no matter where you are in that process.
