Eclipse Season
Eclipse Season: An invitation to feel
As the eclipses of the sun and moon come through this month on August 12th and 27th, 2026 here in the West, comes an invitation to feel and receive. The moon goes through this season of eclipse regularly and the moon is our heart, the place of emotions. Some people call this the soul, and whatever word you use, it is the energy of emotions. The moon’s energy is most evident in the tides, the daily movements, pushes and pulls, of tidal water on our coasts.
In this post we explore this metaphor, the ebbs and flows of emotions in our daily life and in the world.
The Ebb
The emptying…
The space ship that blasted into our beloved Moon. The child needing an attorney so that they don’t have to represent themself in immigration court today. The dry grasses along the paths. The data centers drinking all of our water. The driver next to you that loaded all their pain, suffering, and despair into their driving. The ants that have been relentlessly marching without end. Our home and our lungs that are on fire.
The breath that catches in the back of the throat.
The heart that flutters.
The body that buzzes in all directions at all times.
The Slack
The pause between ebb and flow/flood is the “slack”. It is the moments of held breath as the water settles before it’s pushed and pulled again.
An invitation: Stop. Be still. Breathe. And look inside.
The Flow
Whatever you find inside, this is your invitation to let it flow. To let the emotions move through you by greeting them, feeling them, and letting them go.
You don’t have to do anything with them. You don’t have to understand them. You don’t have to analyze them. You don’t even have to have language for them. You just practice receiving them, letting them fill you, and then letting them go through your breath back into the world.
The Ebb
Sometimes the movement of the water is peaceful and smooth. Sometimes it is chaotic and terrifying. Sometimes it brings with it rainbows, sometimes biting no-see-ums. And it can be hard or easy or meh.
